Aussiedoodle Grooming: What You Need to Know

Aussiedoodles have beautiful coats, but that gorgeous fur requires regular maintenance. Here's your complete guide to keeping your Aussiedoodle looking and feeling their best.

Do You Have to Cut Aussiedoodle Hair?

Yes, Aussiedoodles need regular haircuts. Unlike dogs with fur that sheds and regulates itself, Aussiedoodle hair continues growing and will mat without maintenance.

Most families keep their Aussiedoodles in a "puppy cut" or "teddy bear cut"—trimmed to 1-2 inches all over for easy maintenance. Some prefer longer, fluffier styles, but these require more frequent brushing.

How often to trim: Every 6-8 weeks for most coat styles. Dogs kept longer may need trims every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting.

DIY vs professional: While you can learn to groom at home, most families use professional groomers. A good groomer keeps the coat healthy and can spot skin issues you might miss.

How Often Should You Bathe an Aussiedoodle?

We Are Fine and dandy

Every 4-6 weeks is typically sufficient for most Aussiedoodles. Bathing too frequently can strip natural oils and dry out their skin.

Exceptions: Bath after muddy adventures, swimming, or if they get into something smelly. Use a dog-specific shampoo—human products can irritate their skin.

Between baths: Spot clean dirty paws and use grooming wipes as needed. A good brushing removes most dirt and debris.

Drying is important: Their thick coats hold moisture, which can lead to skin issues if not dried properly. Towel dry thoroughly and use a blow dryer on low heat if your dog tolerates it.

Daily and Weekly Grooming Routine

Brushing is the foundation of Aussiedoodle coat care. Here's what we recommend:

Daily: Quick 5-minute brush during heavy shedding seasons or if your dog plays outdoors frequently.

2-3 times weekly: Thorough brushing with a slicker brush, paying extra attention to areas prone to matting—behind ears, under legs, around collar area, and rear end.

Weekly: Check ears for debris or odor, inspect skin for any issues, trim paw pad fur if overgrown.

Monthly: Nail trims (or as needed based on wear), teeth cleaning.

The right tools: Slicker brush for general brushing, metal comb for checking for mats, detangling spray for stubborn areas. We're happy to recommend specific products.
