Is an Aussiedoodle Right for You?

Aussiedoodles are incredible dogs—intelligent, loyal, and endlessly loving. But they're not the right fit for everyone. Before you fall in love with those adorable puppy photos, let's make sure an Aussiedoodle matches your lifestyle.

Are Aussiedoodles Good Family Dogs?

Yes—for the right families. Aussiedoodles are known for being gentle with children, loyal to their people, and social with other pets. They form strong bonds and genuinely want to be part of family activities.

They're also intelligent enough to learn household rules quickly, and their herding instincts can actually help keep an eye on kids playing in the yard.

That said, Aussiedoodles need families who have time for them. They don't do well left alone for 10+ hours daily, and they need mental stimulation beyond just a backyard. If your family is active and home regularly, an Aussiedoodle will thrive.

Are Aussiedoodles Good House Dogs?

We Are Fine and dandy

Aussiedoodles adapt well to indoor living, but they need adequate exercise. A tired Aussiedoodle is a well-behaved Aussiedoodle. Without enough physical and mental activity, they can become destructive or develop anxiety.

Daily exercise requirements: 45-60 minutes minimum of walks, play, or training. Puppies need multiple shorter sessions throughout the day.

Space considerations: You don't need a huge yard, but you do need commitment to daily walks and activities. Apartment living can work if you're dedicated to getting your dog out regularly.

Shedding reality: Mini Aussiedoodles are low-shedding thanks to their Poodle genetics, but they're not completely hypoallergenic. They require regular grooming—brushing several times weekly and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks.

What to Know Before Getting an Aussiedoodle

Energy Level: Aussiedoodles are medium to high energy dogs. They come from two working breeds (Australian Shepherds and Poodles were both bred for jobs), so they need purposeful activity. Great for active families, not ideal for couch-potato households.

Training Needs: Their intelligence is a double-edged sword. They learn quickly, but they also get bored quickly. Plan for ongoing training and mental enrichment throughout their lives.

Grooming Commitment: That beautiful low-shedding coat requires maintenance. Budget for professional grooming and commit to regular brushing, or their coats will mat.

Lifespan: 12-15 years is a long commitment. Make sure you're ready for over a decade with your new family member.

Cost: Beyond the puppy price, budget for quality food, grooming, veterinary care, and training. Aussiedoodles are an investment.
