What is an F1 Aussiedoodle?
F1 = First Generation. Your puppy has one Australian Shepherd parent and one Poodle parent, making them 50% of each breed.
At Fine & Dandy, we cross Mini Australian Shepherds with Moyen Poodles to create F1 Mini Aussiedoodles. Every puppy is a true 50/50 split of both parent breeds.
Genetics breakdown: F1 puppies inherit half their DNA from each parent breed. This creates the strongest hybrid vigor and the most genetic diversity, which generally translates to better health.
What you get: A balanced blend of Australian Shepherd intelligence, loyalty, and drive with Poodle trainability, lower-shedding coat, and gentle nature.

Why We Only Breed F1 Aussiedoodles
We Are Fine and dandy
Hybrid vigor is real. When you cross two unrelated purebred dogs, their offspring tend to be healthier than either parent breed. This is called heterosis or hybrid vigor, and it's strongest in the first generation.
Why F1 specifically: Each subsequent generation (F1b, F2, etc.) dilutes this effect. F1b puppies (75% Poodle, 25% Aussie) lose some hybrid vigor. F2 puppies (two Aussiedoodle parents) can have more variable health and temperament.
Predictable outcomes: F1 puppies have more consistent size, temperament, and coat type than later generations. When you're getting an F1, you have a clearer picture of what to expect.
Our commitment: We could produce more puppies by breeding Aussiedoodles to each other, but we prioritize health over volume. F1 breeding requires maintaining separate Australian Shepherd and Poodle lines.

F1 vs F1b vs F2: Quick Comparison
F1 (what we breed): 50% Australian Shepherd, 50% Poodle. Maximum hybrid vigor, balanced traits, most predictable.
F1b: Usually 75% Poodle, 25% Australian Shepherd (Aussiedoodle bred back to Poodle). Curlier coat, possibly lower shedding, reduced hybrid vigor.
F2: Two Aussiedoodle parents. Most variable outcomes—puppies can range from mostly Aussie-like to mostly Poodle-like. Least predictable.
Which is "best"? There's no universal answer. F1b might work better for severe allergies. F2 might produce a specific look someone wants. We choose F1 because we believe the health benefits of maximum hybrid vigor outweigh other considerations.
